About the programme

The Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy foundation programme COMPLEX is created by UJOP Charles University experts in cooperation with university faculties. It is designed for you if you already have at least B1 level English (IELTS 4.0–5.0 or equivalent).

 

Unlike Czech-taught programmes, English-language university degrees in Czechia are tuition-based. However, tuition fees remain highly affordable compared with many other European countries while providing internationally recognised degrees and excellent career opportunities.

 

The programme combines intensive academic preparation to maximise your chances to succeed at entrance examinations, academic English development, university admissions guidance, and full student support to adapt to life in Czechia.

What will you study?

Medical faculties in Czechia maintain high academic standards and competitive entrance procedures. The COMPLEX programme therefore focuses on academic excellence, study skills and university admission preparation.

All subjects are taught in English. The curriculum gradually develops students' academic language, scientific reasoning, and problem-solving skills required for successful university studies.

Academic year structure

 
  • The programme starts in September.
  • Lessons take place every weekday from 8:30 to 15:30.
  • Students have 35 lessons per week, 1,250 lessons in total.
  • One lesson equals one academic hour (45 minutes).
  • Lessons include lectures, seminars, projects, and regular tests.
  • Students are expected to complete 10 hours of self-study per week, including homework.
  • Student orientation: Weeks 1-2: intensive language lessons + an adaptation programme. From week 3: tuition in language and academic subjects.
  • The academic year is divided into 3 trimesters.
    • Each trimester has a different weekly timetable.
    • At the end of each trimester, students take tests in English and academic subjects to track their progress and prepare for university studies.
  • The study programme is flexible within certain limits. The lesson structure is adapted to the needs and progress of each student group.

Entry requirements

Do you meet the entry requirements?

  • Completed high school before the start of the medical foundation programme. (You may apply before graduation).
  • At least B1 level of English: (approximately IELTS 4.0–5.0 or equivalent). Accepted certificates include: IELTS, TOEFL, Pearson PTE, Cambridge English or Duolingo English Test. The certificate must be submitted no later than one month before the programme starts.

  • Have a solid high-school foundation in relevant academic subjects in your native language. (See the list of topics here)
  • You must turn at least 17 years old by 31 December of the year you start your studies at UJOP UK. (Younger candidates are assessed individually.)

Location

Study Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy foundation programme COMPLEX in Poděbrady, near Prague. The UJOP Poděbrady study centre is located in the charming spa town of Poděbrady on the River Elbe.

 

Classes take place directly in Poděbrady Castle, a historic landmark dating back to the 12th century situated in the town centre. Student accommodation is available within a 10-minute walk from the castle.

 

Poděbrady offers a calm, safe, and student-friendly environment while maintaining excellent connections to Prague. Direct trains run regularly, with a travel time of approximately 50 minutes.

 

Students benefit from a unique combination of focused academic preparation, historical surroundings, and easy access to one of Europe's most beautiful capitals.

University after the foundation

University application period usually begins in January, with support from UJOP teachers and study assistants throughout the process.

 

What can you study after the medical foundation programme?

  • General medicine and dentistry, and other medicine and healthcare-related majors, including pharmacy, medical diagnostic and treatment technology, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, biomedical technology etc.
  • Veterinary related majors, including veterinary medicine, veterinary hygiene and ecology, etc.
  • Science and related majors (biology, biochemistry, environmental sciences, chemistry).
