Exams Czech Language Dept., ILPS Prague

EXAMS

The system of Czech examinations (extent, content, and form) is set up in compliance with relevant Czech legislation. Examinations take place on dates announced beforehand.

Applicants fill out an application form for the particular type of examination, including the date. The application form has to be delivered to the Czech Department of UK ÚJOP no later than one week before the examination date. The examinations have a written and an oral section. The candidates can take the oral examination only if they pass the written examination. The oral examination is held before an examining board which is made up of one examiner and at least one observer who is the board’s chairman. After passing the exam students are given a certificate relevant to the level of the examination.

Examinations are arranged into four (4) levels according to different degrees of proficiency.
  1. The 1st level (the lowest) tests language knowledge and speaking skills in the range of beginner’s basic grammar and lexis.
  2. The 2nd level tests basic language knowledge and speaking skills in the range of elementary grammar and lexis.
  3. The 3rd level tests general language knowledge and speaking skills in the range of intermediate grammar and lexis including basic knowledge of Czech culture and institutions.
  4. The 4th level tests advanced knowledge of the Czech language in the range of language ability at the level of advanced grammar and lexis. Knowledge of Czech culture and institutions is an integral part of the examination.
For the setting of examination requirements the following acts have been used as a legislative basis: Act No.455/1991, on commercial activity (1st and 2nd language examination degrees); and Regulation No.526/1992 of the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, on state language examinations (3rd and 4th language examination degrees).

The extent, content and form of language examinations of individual degrees are specified in the following examination requirements.
